PRO: Nelson was selected by the Oakland (now Las Vegas) Raiders in the fourth round, 110th overall, of the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent two seasons (2018-19) with the Raiders and suited up for 12 games, starting three. With the Raiders, he registered 20 defensive tackles, one pass deflection and one fumble recovery. He subsequently spent time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2021. 

COLLEGE: Nelson started in the NCAA at the University of Hawaii. Over the 2014 and 2015 seasons, he played in 21 games and registered 87 defensive tackles (three for a loss), one sack, 20 pass deflections and two forced fumbles. He then transferred to Wisconsin and, after a redshirt season, played in all 14 of the Badgers’ games in 2017. That year, he set a single-season school record for pass breakups (21) and led the NCAA in that category. Also in 2017, he returned 24 punts for 206 yards, 50 of which produced a touchdown against Michigan. As a senior, Nelson was named a Second-Team All-American (by CBS) and was a consensus First-Team All-Big Ten selection.
