2023: Patterson dressed for 13 games as a first-year Roughrider, serving primarily as the short-yardage quarterback. He carried the ball 15 times for 39 yards and two touchdowns, both of which were scored on June 24 in a 29-26 overtime victory over the host Calgary Stampeders. He also completed four of six passes for 32 yards.

PRO: Patterson signed with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2020. In 2021, he spent time with the B.C. Lions before dressing for five games with the Montreal Alouettes. With Montreal in 2021, he rushed 11 times for 18 yards as the short-yardage quarterback. On Feb. 22, 2022, Patterson was drafted first overall by the USFL’s Michigan Panthers. He also spent time in the USFL that season with the New Orleans Breakers.

COLLEGE: Patterson spent his first two seasons of NCAA football at the University of Mississippi. Over the 2016 and 2017 seasons at Ole Miss, he passed for 3,139 yards and 23 touchdowns over 10 games. He also rushed for 153 yards and one score. He then transferred to the University of Michigan and played for the Wolverines in 2018 and 2019. In 26 games at Michigan, he threw for 5,661 yards and 45 touchdowns, with 15 interceptions. He also rushed for 323 yards and seven majors. Patterson earned All-Big Ten Third-Team honours in both his seasons with the Wolverines. On Nov. 16, 2019, Patterson threw for 384 yards and four TDs in a 44-10 victory over the arch-rival Michigan State Spartans. One week later, he passed for five touchdowns and 366 yards in a 39-14 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers. In his final NCAA game, he passed Tom Brady and moved into seventh on the Wolverines’ All-Time passing-yardage list.

PERSONAL: Patterson was chosen by the Texas Rangers in the 39th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft … His grandfather, George Patterson, played for the Detroit Pistons during the 1967-68 National Basketball Association season.
