Jim Hopson
President and Chief
Executive Officer

On January 2, 2005, Jim Hopson came on board back in 2005 as the Roughriders’ first Chief Executive Officer. During his first three years as President/CEO fans have seen many changes on and off the field. The changes and a focus on excellence in all areas of the operation culminated in the team winning the 2007 Grey Cup!

At the midway point of the 2006 season, Hopson made the recommendation to the team’s board of directors to change General Managers and bring in Eric Tillman. The addition of Tillman has been instrumental in achieving the success on the field which brought the Grey Cup back to Saskatchewan.

There has been a renewed focus on community involvement by the club and a significant number of players are now working and making Regina their year round home and being very involved in the community.

Mosaic Stadium has also undergone numerous improvements with the most recent being the installation of FieldTurf prior to the 2007 season. Off the field, the Riders are continuing to excel as a business and recorded the highest profit in the team’s history in 2007. The team has won Paragon Awards for both marketing and community involvement over the past three years. These have all been steps in attaining the level of excellence Hopson desires for the organization.

A high priority of the club is the development of a long term vision for the home of the Green and White. This is underway and being developed in partnership with the City of Regina. This will ensure Mosaic Stadium will not only give the players and coaches a first class facility to call home, but will also give the proud fans of the Riders a quality stadium in which they can cheer on their beloved team.

Hopson’s role with the Roughriders includes overseeing all of the operations of the football club, and he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to that role. Prior to joining the Roughriders Hopson spent 30 years as a teacher, principal and Director of Education in Saskatchewan. Most recently he was the first CEO/Director of Education for the newly amalgamated Qu’Appelle Valley School Division.

Hopson’s roots in Saskatchewan football run deep. He began his football career in high school with the Thom Collegiate Trojans. He then went on to play for the Regina Rams prior to joining the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1973.

Hopson became a starter in 1974 and lined up at guard or tackle for each game during the season. Hopson played four seasons with Saskatchewan and helped open holes for the likes of legendary back George Reed, and in protecting quarterback great Ron Lancaster.

Hopson was able to combine teaching in Lumsden with playing professional football during the 1975 and 1976 seasons, but after playing in the 1976 Grey Cup he retired from football to concentrate on his career in education. He followed the Riders as a fan until 2001 when he joined the board at the request of the Rider Alumni to serve as a special advisor.

Eric Tillman
General Manager
Vice-President of Football Operations

On August 23, 2006, Eric Tillman was introduced as the new General Manager and Vice-President of Football Operations for the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club.

Tillman has been involved in the CFL for the last 16 years during which time he has served as General Manager for four teams – B.C.,
Toronto, Ottawa and currently Saskatchewan. During that time he has captured three Grey Cups - the most recent being in 2007 with the Roughriders.

He graduated with a Journalism Degree from theUniversity of Mississippi in 1979.

Tillman began his football career in 1981 when he joined the public relations department of the NFL’s Houston Oilers.

He then moved to the CFL in 1982 when he took the job of Director of Player Personnel with the Montreal Concordes.

In 1984, he became executive director of the prestigious Senior Bowl, held annually in Mobile, Alabama. During his eight years with the NFL-sponsored All-Star game, he gained invaluable contacts in collegiate professional football.

In 1993, he accepted the vacant General Manager position with the B.C. Lions, inheriting a team that had finished 3-15 the previous year. The team went on to win 31 games over the next three seasons which included capturing the Grey Cup in 1994 in Vancouver 26-23 over the Baltimore Stallions thanks to Lui Passaglia's winning field goal.

Tillman then left the CFL to head overseas where he worked as the Director of Football Operations for NFL Europe. In that role, Tillman also spent extensive time in the NFL office in New York.

He returned to the CFL in 1997 as the General Manager of the Toronto Argonauts. The Argos went on to capture the Grey Cup that season, knocking off the upstart Roughriders in that game with standout quarterback Doug Flutie at the helm for the Boatmen. Tillman was with Toronto for the 1997 season and the 1999 season as the team's GM.

In his most recent Manager role in the CFL, Tillman worked with the Ottawa Renegades for the expansion clubs' first three seasons prior to heading into broadcasting where he worked with CBC and Sportsnet as a television analyst for the CFL.

Over the course of his CFL career, Tillman has brought many noteworthy players into the CFL including Kerry Joseph, Jason Armstead, Fred Perry, Jeremy O’Day and Korey Banks.
